Shiori Kuwahara, born in Tokyo, has become a laureate of prestigious international competitions and is attracting international attention. Her performances with orchestra include appearances with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, and Israel Camerata Jerusalem, under the direction of conductors such as Alexander Lazarev, Kazushi Ono, Ken’ichiro Kobayashi, Paweł Przytocki, and Vahan Mardirossian.
She has performed at major music festivals and concert venues, including the Duszniki International Chopin Piano Festival, Rudolfinum Dvořák Hall (Prague), Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona), BOZAR (Brussels), and the Charles Bronfman Auditorium (Tel Aviv). She has been invited to give recitals in countries such as Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Poland, Serbia, Spain, and the USA.
In 2025, she became a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.
In 2021, she won second prize (the highest placement ever by a Japanese pianist) at the 16th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel Aviv, also receiving two additional prizes.
In 2019, she won second prize (again, the highest placement ever by a Japanese pianist) at the 62nd Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano, as well as the prize for the best interpretation of a piece by Busoni.
She also received second prize at the 68th Gian Battista Viotti Competition (Vercelli, 2017) and the 62nd Maria Canals International Music Competition (Barcelona, 2016).
Shiori began studying piano at the age of four. She studied at Tokyo University of the Arts (GEIDAI) under Kei Itoh and graduated with the highest honors. She then continued her studies in Germany, completing her master’s degree and Konzertexamen with top distinction at the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK) under Klaus Hellwig. She has also studied at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole under Eliso Virsaladze and at the Lake Como International Piano Academy under Maestro William Grant Naboré. She has received artistic guidance from Michel Béroff, Richard Goode, Leif Ove Andsnes, and Joaquín Achúcarro.
